Cantemus was an accomplished chamber choir of around 26 voices. It was formed in May 1992 by a small group of friends who wanted to sing some of the best music in the chamber choir repertoire for their own satisfaction and enjoyment. Finding that they needed to give themselves something to work for, they arranged to give a concert (in St. Martin's Church, Canterbury) in the December of the same year. They were delighted to discover that their audience - mainly friends - appreciated and even seemed to enjoy their first performance, so they were encouraged to continue.

After those early days Cantemus tackled music from a wide range of styles and periods initially concentrating almost exclusively on music for unaccompanied choir, but later frequently performing with the Cantemus Orchestra (including some well-received performances in the Canterbury Festival).
